Who Is This Visa For?

The Non-Immigrant O Family Visa is available to:

  • Foreigners who are legally married to a Thai national (marriage must be registered at a Thai government office)
  • Foreigners who are a parent of a Thai child (biological or legally adopted)
  • Dependants of existing Non-O or Non-B visa holders (see Dependent Visa below)

The visa grants a 1-year stay, renewable each year at the local immigration office β€” without leaving Thailand. Unlike the Retirement Visa, there is no age requirement, and the visa allows you to apply for a Thai work permit. The best part? You won't have to leave Thailand to process your visa. We handle the intricate details while you focus on building your life here.

⏰ Timing: Processing typically takes approximately 4–5 weeks. We recommend starting at least 25 working days before your current visa expires.

⚠️ Marriage registration matters: The marriage must be legally registered at a Thai Amphur (district office) β€” a wedding ceremony or religious blessing alone is not sufficient. If your marriage was registered abroad only, it will need to be officially translated, authenticated, and registered in Thailand.

Please note that our agency does not handle wedding arrangements, marriage certificates, or their legalisation. Customers must obtain and legalise a marriage certificate in Thailand first, after which we can assist with obtaining the marriage visa.

Dependent Visa

A Dependent Visa allows family members to stay in Thailand based on a relative who already holds a Thai Non-O visa (Retirement, Education, or Family visa) or a Non-B Business visa.

  • For a spouse: a marriage certificate is required
  • For a child: the child's birth certificate is required
  • For the holder of a business visa with a work permit: spouse and children may both accompany them

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I work in Thailand on a Marriage Visa?
Yes β€” the Marriage Visa allows you to apply for a Thai work permit and work legally in Thailand. This is one of its key advantages over the Retirement and Education visas.
What if our marriage was registered abroad, not in Thailand?
A foreign marriage certificate must be officially translated into Thai and authenticated (apostille or embassy legalisation). You will need to complete this process yourself and register the marriage at a Thai district office before we can process your visa application.
Do I need to report to immigration every 90 days?
Yes. All long-term visa holders in Thailand must submit a 90-day address report (TM47). We can handle this on your behalf β€” you don't need to visit the immigration office yourself.
What if I don't have 400,000 THB in a bank account?
You may be able to use a monthly income method instead β€” demonstrating at least 40,000 THB per month transferred from abroad. A combination of income and savings may also be accepted. Contact us to discuss your specific situation.
What if I want to travel outside Thailand?
If you leave Thailand without a Re-Entry Permit, your visa will be cancelled. Before any trip abroad, you must secure a Re-Entry Permit from immigration. We can arrange Single Re-Entry Permits (1,500 THB) or Multiple Re-Entry Permits (4,500 THB). If you are planning to travel abroad, we recommend requesting the re-entry permit stamp at the same time as your visa β€” we will arrange both together for you.
